Come be a part of something that is about Connection, Community, Conservation and Saving the World!

Contributors Guidelines

Do you have a story, video or photograph that you would like to share with Barnacle Babes?

Contributors' Guidelines

Thank you for your interest in submitting your video, article, blog or photographs to Barnacle Babes. Barnacle Babes magazine is a community based magazine that accepts content from our community members only! This is one of the perks of membership.

We are always looking for community stories from our members that talk about their sport, their passion, their conservation endeavours, their hope for the oceans future, their career, their travel, their opportunities for play and their healing! If you have a story you’d like to share and are a community member, please do so!

We publish a little bit of everything. We don’t normally publish fiction but if you’ve written an interesting story and would like to share some of it, depending on the read, we could share. We love to publish poetry! Send us something with a picture! However, your experiences, your non-fiction stories and interviews or stories about others, are always most welcomed. If sending only a query, please include clips or writing samples. If you have not written for us previously and are pitching a Feature or Dispatch piece, please send either a full draft or a 300 word write up outlining your article.

Print Magazine Guidelines

If you’d like to pitch to the print magazine, please think about what section of the magazine would be the best fit for your idea.

Features are 1,000 to 1,500 words of meaty interviews, essays, and articles on subjects of scientific interest or of features of popular, well know Warrior Women out there making a difference in their community of ocean sport, vocation, conservation or health!

Dispatches are 600- 800 word missives from our community members sharing their loves, passions, endeavours, and experiences with the water.

Front of Book is a section with fun, short pieces that still carry the passion from our community but in an accessible format. Things such as poetry, musings and art projects.

Photographs – All articles should be submitted with high resolution picture(s). You must be the photographer of the picture or have written permission for use of the picture. They all must be a minimum of 1 MG in size and a 96 dpi resolution.

As Barnacle Babes magazine is still just trying to get off the ground, we presently do not pay for our submissions, however, as we grow and our membership grows, we will definitely be changing this policy.

Please send all materials through our submission manager. Submit to the section of the magazine that best fits your pitch. We do not accept submissions or pitches through the mail.

Themes for future issues

Our themes are only created as a base point and an opportunity to begin to form some general themes, however, they are not limiting factors and we will often take pieces outside of the themes, should the pieces still work with in it.  We encourage you to not interpret the themes too literally.

We will be accepting pitches for our next couple of issues:

  • The Pacific Rim – Vol 4: Issue 1 from October 1, 2018 to December 15, 2018
  • SUP – Vol 4: Issue 2 from Jan 1, 2019 to March 1, 2019
  • The Ocean, Our Healer – Vol 4: Issue 3 from April 1, 2019 to June 1, 2019
  • Scuba – Vol 4: Issue 4 from July 1, 2019 to Sept 1, 2019
  • Ocean Beautiful – Vol 5 : Issue 1 from Oct 1 to Dec. 1, 2020

Video Guidelines

Barnacle Babes is just getting started in this area and will be happy soon to take submissions for various web-series ideas. We’d eventually like to create a channel that will showcase, stories, travel, art, ocean vocation and conservation efforts of various ocean forward people, companies and organisations.

Should you have a pitch for a show idea, please upload here with a short video introduction and synopsis of your web-series idea in .mp4 format.
